Recently I have been coming across the instagram picture with the caption “My ultimate goal in life”. It’s a picture of a man bowed down getting his crown from Jesus. When I first saw it I loved it. It’s obvious, we all want to get to heaven. But as I thought about it, I became uneasy and challenged to take a good look in the mirror and ask myself “are you on the right path to make it”.
Some might say Kylie, what are you talking about your going to heaven girl just relax, but as I read scripture and various excerpts about how serious God is about me being serious, it really causes me to wonder, am I pleasing to God and am I'm on the right path?
Matthew 7:21-23 has been on my heart heavy for the past few months. It reads, “Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance—isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’ (MSG). This kept replaying in my head because I feel as if I'm a good person. I praise the Lord on Sundays, read my bible throughout the week, do right by others, and to think God could possibly say “Kylie I never knew you” shakes my soul.
So many of us do so many things “for Christ”, but do not really know Christ. You can tell by the way they act from the time they leave church to the time they arrive the next Sunday. John 14:15 says, "If you love me, show me by doing what I’ve told you” (MSG). How can I say I know and love God but my life is saying I love this world? Do you really think God is going to let you “do you” and run around like a reckless man/woman, then get to the gates and give you that crown? I don’t know about you but I'm not playing around with my salvation. My friend and I would joke around and say “people are going to get to the gate and Jesus is going to say ‘hol up hol up’ (wiz v.), but that’s the honest truth! I don’t know about you but I do not want to be one of those.
So you may be thinking well dang what must I do to really be saved. God simply wants us to obey his commandment, have faith, love our neighbor, and believe he is real. Of all that, obeying his word really is what I think separates us from entering eternal life. No matter if you give a million dollars away to charity and forgive those who wronged you, if you did not have a PERSONAL (intimate, distinct, individual, and unique) relationship with God, he is not having it at all. Don’t do it for the gram, don’t do it for the world, do it for Jesus. He wants to get to know you personally and you better wake up each day FIGHTING to get to know him so you can stand proud before him to get your crown and hear those words “Well done my good and faithful servant” (Matt 25:23).
So for 2015 I challenge you to not focus so much on the goal, but focus on what you need to be doing NOW to ensure entry! God bless and see ya next year!
